Middle ground food for diabetic & q. about Nutrience canned

I know there is a cat food subforum but it's inactive, so I wanted to ask here.

My 6 y/o cat is diabetic and I'm looking for the sort of "middle ground" food for him. While he eats pretty much everything I put in front of him, I'm trying to find a food with higher quality protein and low amounts of byproducts/liver/etc. that won't break my small budget. Wellness, Felidae, etc. are all more than I can afford right now.

I have emailed Hagen to request the info with no reply yet. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Precise is a decent low-carb brand that tends to be a little cheaper (especially if you buy the large 13oz cans). May not be as easy to find though. The only Nutrience I've ever bought was their new organic grain-free beef version, but none of my cats liked it (had a really weird gummy texture).

Good luck!

There are no Precise retailers where I am (Kelowna). I picked up a case of Wellness for 2.75 a can (ouch) to give him occasionally, but I still need a half decent everyday food.

Hi, my cat has been diabetic for 4 year and she is now 15 I had her on the vet prescribed food, but when I researched it, it wasn't that great. For the last 3 years I have had her on Natures Variety Chicken formula, and with me checking her insulin level she has been great. I would even say better then with the vet food. Do you check the insulin level? Or is your cat on insulin?
