Harley was hit by a car :(

I was walking the dogs ( On leash ) just now,and was walking across the street, some ******* decides not to pay attention and hit Harley :(. It would have been worse if I did not see the man start driving. I pulled Harley away as fast as possible, His back end was hit. No serious damage(meaning no limping) thank god, but I am making a vet trip to make sure internal is ok. :( my baby

oh man, did he at least stop?? I hope everything is ok. poor Harley, please keep us updated

hedgiemama March 20th, 2011 07:37 AM

oh poor Harley! i hope they stopped and you got their info just incse, i hope hes all right!

Rottielover March 20th, 2011 09:08 AM

Just got back from the vet, seems like he is alright, will be bruised. Would have been a lot worse if I did not get him out of the way. No blood in the lungs, but I was told that it can take up to 48 hours after the incident before internal bleeding signs appear. I think he will just be sore, but I wanted to make sure and not assume.
I got the phone number of the guy, but he lives in a different province, most likely will do nada.

omg...how do you not see a dog on a leash....with a person behind him??? I am happy that you and Harley are both ok.

Goldfields March 20th, 2011 10:09 AM

Poor boy. :fingerscr that there is nothing to worry about. Kudos to you for thinking quick by the way. :thumbs up No doubt you saved Harley's life.
Sadly, in a worse case of traffic versus dog, one time here a well liked member of the cattle dog scene was at the edge of the road waiting to cross and it was the dog that did the wrong thing, it lunged forward into the road, pulling him with it, and both got hit and killed. :( I always worry about animals near traffic in case the unforseen happens.

I am still in shock, but he seems to be fine.

erykah1310 March 20th, 2011 11:45 AM

WOW, you must have been close to being hit too then.
hugs

Glad it wasn't more serious but that must have been very scary :grouphug:.

If you have any homeopathic arnica it would be a good idea to give hime some to help prevent some of the bruising.

Tundra_Queen March 20th, 2011 03:21 PM

I'm so glad that Harley is ok! Thank goodness u saw the car coming and pulled him back!! :grouphug: Did u get the license plate of the car? Too bad u didn't call the cops just so there would be a police record of the accident. But hopefully he is a good person and will pay for the vet costs and Harley will not have any lingering problems.

Rottielover March 20th, 2011 03:27 PM

Harley seems fine, went outside and he played for a little bit. We just have to watch out for possibility of internal bleeding.
Personally it could have been a lot worse, and yes thank god I saw the car.
Think he just might have bruised his ribs.

Tundra_Queen March 20th, 2011 04:24 PM

I'm so happy for u that Harley is playing and acting ok!! :grouphug:

ancientgirl March 20th, 2011 05:21 PM

OMG how scary! Thank goodness you saw the guy. What an idiot though.

BenMax March 20th, 2011 05:35 PM

Wow..scary. What did the vet say?
Are you both ok?

Rottielover March 20th, 2011 06:08 PM

Was not my normal vet. All vital signs are great, heart was not beating as quickly as it should, but she did not seem too concerned.
She told me that the reason he might not be showing any pain right after was his adrenaline was pumped high, and rotties have a very high pain tolerance.
Been 12 hours since the accident, and gums are still pink, eating normal and shows no signs of slowing down... Thank god.
She also said it was a good thing I chose to bring him in, although he may have seemed fine, does not mean that he is.
I did not hesitate, took 30 mins to walk home from a 5 min distance, but wanted to make sure he was ok.
I then waited at the vet till 8:30. I was lucky to have a good vet that was more than willing to ask her apt to wait for a few mins so Harley could be seen.
Let me tell you, I have never been so scared. I do not even want to think of what could have been if I was not paying attention.

Love4himies March 20th, 2011 09:11 PM

Holy crap, RL :grouphug: How scary that must have been  :grouphug:. I hope there Harley continues to get better and only has some light bruising. :goodvibes:

angeldogs March 20th, 2011 09:54 PM
