Tritan is having emergency surgery,,,right now!!!
I woke up this morning and was greeted by the worrisome odour of kitty diahrrea. My culprit was Tritan, my 7 year old Maine Coon.
I cleaned him and the floors up, kept watch on him and other than being a bit miffed at having to have a butt bath seemed to be doing OK. As is his style, while I was on the computer, he strolled across my desk with his tail held high....still partially covered in poop and a bit on the thin side since his magnificent Maine Coon tail was still damp .... when I noticed what looked like a laceration on his perineum!!! Immediately...called the vet and by the time I got there, the area had herniated from all the caterwalling of being put in a carrier. The reason for the laceration is unknown...suggestions were possibly he got caught while jumping...another kitty scratching him...it would have to be a really strong scratch to open a one inch area...but really we dont know. He is now in surgery for debridement and stitches. I only can imagine how bad it could have gotten if I didnt see it today...seeing as the area it was located in was less than clean. My first fear was the butt bath, but the vet assured me it could not have been caused by that. Anyone have any suggestions on how this laceration could have occured? The vet said it is really close to his penis so they have to take special care to examine the extent of the damage. Needless to say...I am overwhelmed. They are supposed to call me as soon as he wakes up. |
Deep breaths, qmc! You didn't cause this and you did a wonderful job of taking care of the problem when you spotted it :grouphug: You're a great mom!
Sending :goodvibes: for a quick recovery! |
no idea how it could have happened but just wanted to send good wishes, you did well discovering it.
|
I can't offer you any insight on how something like that might have happened.
Just sending :grouphug: for you and :goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes: for a speedy recovery for Tritan. |
Thank you everyone...I am taking deep breaths....scared out of my wits, but the vet assured me it will be fine....thank goodness he had that butt bath or I may never have seen it with all the britch fur.
Now I sit by the phone and wait...and try to remember how to pray! |

As long as he can pee and the peenie did not get damaged! No word about that..so I am assuming (hoping) that is the case. |
Glad all went well....It's great that he can come home tonite...I find it so stressful when you have to leave them over nite...at least if he is home you can fuss and cuddle him, and it will be so much less stress for him...nobody can take care of him the way his own human can!!:thumbs up:cat:
|
Oh wow!! It is really good you spotted it so quick. I can imagine that could get infected pretty quick. Poor kitty!! Bet that spot would be pretty painful.
Keeping fingers crossed for an uneventful recovery for him! |
I hope he's OK. He'll be all right, most things treated on time will be OK
Best luck for Tritan and QuincyMyCat <3 He'll be OK  |
Wow..what a scare this must have been but so happy to hear the Tritan is on the mend. :highfive:
How is he doing so far at home now? :grouphug: |
Thankfully, Tritan is home and although he is pretty dopey still...he is moving...slowly and carefully.
His eyes are still pretty glazed so I will hold off the pain meds until tomorrow morning. I think I may have figured out what happened to him...when he was trying to hide away this morning, he crawled into a storage space which may have had sharp edges on some containers....I cant seem to figure out any other way it could have happened. Although a scratch from another cat was thought by the vet..the laceration was very clean and about 1 1/2 inches long. The only cat that has claws that are not trimmed regularly is my semi feral and I dont think she is big enough to do such drastic damage. Regardless, it has happened and is now repaired and with luck...all will be back to normal in a couple of weeks when he has his sutures out. I want to thank everyone again for the good wishes and prayers. It was pretty scary for me and I imagine was no picnic for Tritan. Thanks again...you are all great! :grouphug: |
Good!!! I knew he'd be fine.
I wonder if keeping clean the are will be hard? Anyways I'm glad and he'll just recover now. I think the storage thing sounds more likely than a cat. Poor baby <3 |

Poor baby <3[/QUOTE] I dont think keeping it clean will be too much of a problem. He has an Elizabethan collar which has already been discarded, he will clean the area continuosly as cats are prone to do, keeping it dry is the bigger problem considering where it is located. Hopefully he will pee straight and not allow it to stay damp. :D |
