Kitty Climbing Wall

Inspired by several different websites such as Ikea Hacker http://http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/search/label/pet%20furniture
and Modern Cat magazine http://http://www.moderncat.net/category/climbing-perching/ my loving and very patient boyfriend designed the cats this awesome climbing and perching wall.

As you can see they love it! They were of course a bit skeptical at first but once they discovered that it was one area the dogs couldn't go they were thrilled!

I LOVE those, what a great idea. Your BF did a great job,

Dracko March 17th, 2009 08:47 AM

Oooh, that is too cool. I'm gonna have to get my nephew to do something like that in my place! :thumbs up

TulipRoxy March 17th, 2009 10:28 AM

I know I know... he's amazing. I didn't really think it would be super complicated when I saw the idea. But I didnt factor in, finding studs in the wall, measuring the shelves, spacing, cutting the shelves... etc etc. So I can't take any credit for either the planning or execution of this project.

I'm glad the kitties have a place to go sit and get off the floor... though knowing cats they probably will snub it! lol

That's awesome!! He did a good job! Too cute the kitties all over it too!:lovestruck:

I can't wait to have the space to make stuff like that for the cats, heck I want to have a cat room with just stuff for them. (as opposed to having strewn all over the house...:laughing:)

That is very cool, but I agree it may need carpeting to keep the kitties from sliding off the end... If I had kitties now I'd definitely be recruiting hubby to build me one of those!

hazelrunpack March 17th, 2009 08:24 PM

Oh, wow! You've got room for 4 more kitties up there!

The cats must love it! What a great idea!

Yay! Its really an easy project if you're at all handy. We bought the shelves and brackets at Ikea and cut them to the desired length. The most difficult part was deciding on a placement that would allow the cats to be able to easily go up and down.

Keep wearing him down!

It's good that you found the studs. Those brackets don't have a very long bottom part (don't know what it's called), so it cannot support much weight without drilling into studs or using anchors.

It's looks really cool too! Much more estically pleasing than my giant cat tree that I made with Ikea furniture. That Ikea Hacker site is cool too. I'm going to have to post some hacks I did.

Oh wow, my cats would LOVE that!

My son helped me to do that last September in the cat's room when we brought home the two kitties. They love it. I am waiting for the contractor to finish with the 2 windows so we can finish it off.

The shelves have outdoor carpeting on them held in place with double side tape and staples so when they are running along it then don't slide off. I want to put a bigger platform in the corner so they can sleep on it.

We didn't always hit studs so we use anchors to hold the shelf in place with brackets under the shelves. So far so good.
