Cat has bladder infection but only has pooped once in 48 hrs

Hi all I am Mary and have a 2yr old long hair domestic kitty named Peter.

My boyfriend and I noticed that Peter was not pooping for a good 24 hrs and immediately took him to our local vet.

After numerous tests it was discovered that he has a Bladder Infection and is now on Clavamox (sp?) 1ml twice a day for 14 days and also is taking Ammonil 200mg also twice a day, the Vet also put him on a special diet of Hill's c/d wet and dry food.

We plan on changing his litter as well, before we were using "Pets Pride" but are now changing it to "worlds best"

Peter has only pooped once since this whole fiasco started. I was wondering if any other pet owner has experienced this? Is it possible for a bladder infection to cause my poor son not to poop?

I am happy to report though that he is peeing more then the past few days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!:cat::fingerscr

Your thread seems to be been overlooked  ...... I am not a cat "expert" but we have many members here that are. :thumbs up

Does Peter have bladder stones or crystals?

I do know that the vet food that he is getting does not have the best ingredients. :yuck:

I am sure that one of our cat gurus will give you more information soon. :goodvibes:

Was Peter eating normally prior to going to the vet?

During the physical exam did the vet mention if s/he felt any poop in the colon?

And is he eating normally now while on the clavamox?

He's eating new food and is on meds, two things which could affect his digestion. You could try giving him a little plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, pure pumpkin) which sometimes helps get them regular. Plain yogurt might also be a good idea, meds tend to strip the good bacteria from the gut and yogurt helps replenish it. Ammonil is prescribed for bladder stones in cats, it acidifes the urine.
I'd stick to the wet food, the more liquid male cats get the better.
Any change since you posted?
