One of our members has this new Nikon.

I'd surely be curious to know their overall opinion of this camera.

In particular I'd like to know if when a photo is PRINTED at 5x7 or larger, if there is noticeable noise in the darker areas of the photograh.

Well, I've only had it a week so give me a few more days!!!!

I printed a couple of contrasty 4X6's last night without incident. I'll print a few bigger ones tonight . . . . .

I haven't seen any issues regarding printing . . . . . but that sounds like a printer issue to tell you the truth.

Still waiting for one more lense for the camera . . . . . but so far, its been peachy keen. I'll read the instruction manual shortly . . . . .


I photoshopped the image below a little bit but shows the 18 mm doing a good job. Keeper at dawn . . .

I tried this camera this weekend. My 4 sentence review is as follows.
This is a fantastic camera that is easy to use and takes SUPERB pictures for the web and at speeds of 100 and 200 to make amazingly beautiful enlargements. At speeds of 400 and up (and especially at 800, 1600 and 3200) when I looked at 8 x 10 enlargements, I noticed too much grain for my taste - but at 4x6 size they were fine at those speeds. Because I do have a photography background I am extra picky and I would suggest that this is a [B]fantastic[/B] camera for the vast vast majority of photo enthusiasts. It was a pleasure to operate this camera that has amazing autofocus and a screen that is extra crisp and beautiful.

well the grain at 400 is the same as if you were to use 400 and up speed film. I don't know why they'd continue the trend. Seeing how it's digital I don't see why it should be grainy because there's no film emulsion to deal with.:confused:
I usually leave my camera on 200 ISO, but the 400 comes in handy in bad lighting conditions.

I have D80 and i love the camera. I have 18-200 Nikkor lense and i love it. I have no issue with big prints and i haven't noticed any noise. I'm guessing it all depends on the settings you're using. I'm not a pro of any type and still learning. To me, i have to play with settings to see what i can get.

I just took few of these pictures. I can't remember which settings i used, they came out pretty nice, i think.

Havent had any grain or noise problems getting shots blown up to 8x10 or larger. My biggest issue is that Im a photoshop retard and am slowly getting used to its quirks.

Of course I put up a canyon wall shot that is 'quartzy' to begin with so looks grainy anyways :)
