How is this possible?

Jack got neutered today. The vet said the procedure went perfectly, and he recovered very nicely. He's supposed to avoid rough housing, jumping on furniture, stairs, walks, and generally everything a puppy does. She said to discourage this behavior and calm him down if he seems rowdy.

What's worse? He's a Shiba Inu. They are VERY energetic puppies.

The first thing--well, second. The first thing Jack did when he saw me was show me his shaven arm. The second thing he did was jump on me. As soon as we got in my apartment, he started running and pouncing at a toy.

So, how do I discourage my shiba pup from playing for the next 7-10 days?

Well I don't know anything about that breed, but males in general recover pretty quick after neuter surgery because it's not as invasive as a female spay surgery.

Distraction is the key. Whenever I have a pup in for spay/neuter surgery I always make sure to have on hand some new yummy smoked marrow bones for when they come home. They're so taken with the bones they don't think about licking at stitches or running around playing, they just lay quietly chewing on their bones. Even though they eat off most of the smoky outside stuff within a day or so, it takes a long time (days, weeks sometimes) to get the marrow out. I always make sure to have enough for all my dogs just to be fair and also to keep the others more settled so they don't want to start playing with whoever's just had surgery. Stuffed kongs would be good too, especially if they're frozen they'll last longer.

My boy came home after surgery hes an 8month old lab, we tried as hard as we could to keep him calm, but puppies will be puppies, for a while he chewed on his bone as one of the other girls said, good distraction lol. He even jumped off the back of the settee before I could stop him, I was paranoid he'd hurt himself but nope he was fine. They do heel really quickly, we had harldly any licking and chewing, but all dogs are different, but I wish you luck and hope all heals well :-)

Put away any of his toys, just for a few days. Instead, for wholesome and "quiet" entertainment, as Gail P suggested: get your pup some nice chew bones.

Generally they heal quickly, so while it's important to monitor the progress, it will pass soon and he'll be ready to get back into his old routine with you.
