Sick iguana pls help
Hello,
I have a 16 year old male iguana. He has small lumps on the neck like inflamed tonsils. When I open his mouth the color looks normal but the most inner part of his mouth does look significantly larger and inflamed than usual. When I touch his neck he reacts as if it hurts. Everybody at home had a really bad cold recently and I'm thinking he might have caught that. Is it possible for iguanas to catch a human cold? Also recently he had a vitamin B1 deficiency (muscle spasms and paralyzed hind leg). I gave him some B1 and that fixed it immediately, I'm pretty sure I gave him an appropriate dosage, could the inflammation somehow relate to that? If this is not the right forum and nobody here can answer my question, could you please refer me to somewhere where I can get some help (forum not vet). Thank you. |
Sorry, but I'm thinking a vet specializing in reptiles would be necessary at this point. How long have you had this iguana? Has he been to the vet at all?

This website appears to have some great info, if you haven't seen it already:
http://www.anapsid.org/mainhealth.html Particularly this part:
The following statement may appear obvious, but given the number of people who post questions on email lists, message boards and by personal email, it bears repeating: If your herp is bleeding from a wound or internally (bloody vomit, or blood in the feces or urates), paralyzed, or has abnormal swellings on any part of its body, or may have a broken bone or shell, or has ingested a potentially toxic substance, do not post a message or send an email: get your pet to a herp vet right away.
|
Any update Bob Marley? How's your iguana doing? Did you manage to find an exotics vet and figure it out?

So sorry about Iguana, i think speaking to an expert will help. All the best.

I suggest you visit a vet, its possible your iguana could be developing a bacterial infection. A vet will be in a good position to conduct a physical examination and advice you accordingly.
