The end of an era....RIP Surge 2002-2015

Our Hamilton Nest has seen some failures this past year with no chicks produced. Possibly a result of old age with Madame X. She is our Matriarch in Hamilton. As in past years I have posted the web cam and updates, well with a heavy heart I am here to tell you the Surge the male nest mate has passed away. He was found injured a few weeks ago and was in rehab getting better for approx. 3 weeks. Last week he suffered a seizure and was given something that seemed to help him. Sadly yesterday he passed away.

Surge was an awesome peregrine falcon of the many we have seen. I personally have experienced his awesome fathering abilities! He used to teach them to fly, hunt and he spent at least 50% of his time brooding the eggs. There were times when he would be bringing in so much food Madame X couldn't keep up with him.

As it is in the wild , Madame X has already moved on! It is almost 100% sure that Surge battled for the territory and sadly lost, when he was found injured.

Although sad I am hopeful that Madame X will produce more offspring. She is I believe 16 now.

RIP Surge!
