Sad times in Vancouver....

 Forgive me, I am sad. I am usually really perky.
It's just... my best friend is sick and suffering and I am
at the biggest lost in my life ever. I cannot stop sobbing.

My pookonden... (keeshond named Keesha, the pook) is broken.

And I am currently helpless. :yell:

:grouphug: What's going on with your fur-baby? She's very beautiful :grouphug:

Melinda January 18th, 2010 10:18 AM

have you been to a vet?

Tandemonium January 19th, 2010 12:50 AM

Hi yes, sorry- that was a dreadful day. :<

I am coping a bit better and it has only been 3 days.

The vet first off, is Fantastic! Best I have ever had. She actually apologized to me for other vets steering me in the wrong direction all this time. Apparently diet effects chronic ear infection, an allergy in food. I had no clue and this is the first time hearing this. I have been battling a yeast infection in my poor pups ears for years, literally. Countless cleanings and yuk!

So with her new exclusion diet of Pork and green beans, twice a day. Served warmed like a fresh kill (vets words) ha. Hopefully her ears will not be a problem anymore and she can get relief. Onto the other issues...

She is only using 30% lung capacity. So in turn, her heart is pumping 4X the normal rate. She is dehydrated from constantly cooking and as of this moment, we don't know why exactly. A big expensive test will show that, but I dunno if it is worth it. She is 16 after all and perfectly happy besides old lady breath from worn teeth, arthritis and cataracts...ahem... and the whole not being able to breath thing. :( booooo

Definitely Canine Pancreatitis - INFLAMMATION OF TUMMY
(alternatives = antacid - then pain relievers)
link:http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2214

Ultrasound in the near future-
to find out if the breathing trouble is fungal or tumors?

synographer is being located currently. I still have hope!

Hi, Welcome. I'm new here as well and the people here are awesome. I'm on the Island so quite close to you.

I also just wanted to say I'm sorry you are going through this and hope you will find answers. She's beautiful. I have an almost 15 1/2 year old cockapoo...so I know about old lady stuff (her not me! LOL).

You've come to a very caring and warm place. I hope you will find support and answers as you travel travel this road with your girl. :)

Hi Tandemonium, if your vet doesn't have someone currently to do the ultrasound you may want to ask for a referral for Keesha to be booked in as a patient with Canada West Veterinary Specialists and have it done there. I've been to Canada West for ultrasounds for both cats & dogs and they are wonderful there.

Keesha is gone now. :cry::rip: - yesterday @ 4pm

Thank you for everyone and their kind words. I will never be the same.
It's truly a dark day when you lay your best friend to rest.
The worlds hardest choice made easy when the pet you know and have
known for 16 yrs isn't the same as she was a month ago. Her quality of
life shot straight down and I chose. Me, her mom, best friend and caretaker
... I chose to let her go of her earthly body.
I cannot stop whimpering and she barely ever made a sound.
Never once letting on the amount of pain she was actually bearing.
How resilient and stubborn, just like me. No wonder we got
along for such a long time. Now, I no longer have to feed her, walk her or
worry. I feel empty. I am so afraid of ever loving another pet yet I want to
be surrounded in fur. So for now... I cry. I let out what she would never show.
My pain. My unbearable pain.
I just know that no one or thing could ever replace such a special girl.

I am so sorry for your loss, run pain free over the bridge keesha

Dog Dancer February 10th, 2010 03:31 PM

I am so sorry to hear about Keesha. You made the best choice for her and the hardest one for yourself. Run free Keesha. Another dog cannot replace Keesha, but that's not to say that you can't love another one equally. When the time is right a new pup will find your heart. Keesha would want you to be happy.

Sylvie February 10th, 2010 04:13 PM

My heart goes out to you. I have been there too many times in the past.

Winston February 10th, 2010 04:19 PM

My condolences....:candle:

Run free to the bridge little one!

marko February 10th, 2010 04:25 PM

I too would like to offer you my deepest condolences. :sorry:

:rip:sweet Keesha :candle:

Sincerely - Marko

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a blessing that you found each other and what a wonderful thing that you had each other for sixteen years. My heart goes out to you and yours.:candle:

I am so sorry that this little soul had to leave. She looked so pretty and we can all tell, that she was truly loved. I know that your heart is heavy right now and in the days to come, profound loss will surround you. She is still with you in spirit, your heart and most off all in your memories. Many of us here have felt the pain you have. We are all here to help you through this. Talk about Keesha, as long as her name is said aloud, she is still remembered. In time, your heart will talk to you and let you know the time to find a new fur baby to love and laugh with. I am so sorry for your loss..:dog::angel:

ivy-girl February 10th, 2010 06:13 PM

I'm so sorry. I've been there. It sucks. She was a lucky girl to have had you as her mom...clearly you loved her and she knew that to the depths of her little fuzzy heart. :sorry:

Be gentle with yourself as your heart heals. Take your time.

My Lodi Girl February 10th, 2010 09:28 PM

I am so sorry. Your post made me cry. It is a horrible heartache to bear letting our babies go.

Dee-O-Gee February 10th, 2010 09:38 PM

Oh dear Tandemonium. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Your thoughts and pain of Keesha truly brought a lump to my throat. :(

If you love animals as much as you loved Keesha, I believe there will come another time for you to love just as much as you did.

Be strong Tandemonium.

:rip: sweet Keesha. :candle:

I know how you feel, we went through the same thing Monday. You seen their face everywhere, deep down you know you made the right decision, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept their gone.

Oh my gosh! Such response. Thank you everyone!!!

The toughest part is new routines, but I am trying everyday. It helps to
have such great connections and a network of love and understanding
people.

Your generosity for sharing your words and thoughts with me made me
choke up. I got her ashes the day of the Olympic start so it was good to
have her home in such inspiring times. Her body rests in a chubby irridecent
urn on my dresser with her picture and a paw print the vet made. I am sad,
but happy. Thank you again. :lovestruck:
