Any one have a good Waffle recipe?

I'm new to cooking from scratch but I can't find a waffle recipe. I know someone must have one or two... :) Please?

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 01:38 PM

lol

Do you have a waffle iron?

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 01:44 PM

pick one

Regular, Belgian, chocolate, banana, cornmeal, pumpkin or peanut butter. :)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm BMDLuver, this is starting to sound like a very yummy thread, think I'll stick around... :D

I have a waffle iron from the 40's. It's got the tiny squares. I can't eat oats or enriched flour, so gimme whichever ones don't have either. (but not pumpkin :p )

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 02:02 PM

hmmm

aren't all white flours enriched? what do you usually substitute?

Prin April 27th, 2005 02:07 PM

White flour is ok, as long as it's not the whole wheat flour, sorry.

Mom's Basic Waffle Batter
1- 3/4 cups all purpose flour 4 tbsp. melted butter or oil
2 tsp baking powder 1-1/2 cups milk
1 tbsp sugar 3 egg whites, beaten until stiff
3 egg yolks beaten

Mix dry ingredients together. Mix the wet ingredients together with the exception of egg whites. Blend wet and dry together. Don't overmix. Gently fold in the egg whites.

For Chocolate: Add a few tbsp of chocolate syrup.

Peanut-Butter: 4 tbsp of hot water mixed with 4 tbsp of peanut butter and add to batter.

Cornmeal: add 1/4 cup of cornmeal to batter

Bacon : once batter is in the iron, add a few strips of cooked bacon across the top before closing.

Belgian flavored: add a 1/2 tsp of vanilla, you can't make the real one's in an iron, it has to be oven baked. Lightly dust with powdered sugar when cooked and put fresh strawberries and whip cream on top.

Remember to spray your iron very well with something like Pam or an equivalent!

Thanks so much. My quebecois man is likely to like the bacon one... Does the bacon have to be cooked before?

What about the banana ones? :)

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 02:36 PM

yep

Bacon should be cooked first, sorry should have put that.

For banana waffles, smash up two overripe bananas and add them to the batter. You can do the same with fruits, blueberries would go in whole, strawberries chopped, crushed pineapple, apples chopped... You can add chocolate chips...

There's so much you can do to a waffle, just think of some of the things that go in crepes and it will work well in a waffle!

lucky I just ate breakfast-- otherwise I might be stuck in the kitchen the rest of the day!! :) I have the best crepe recipe, if anyone wants it (it's very sweet though). :) I think I got it from five roses.

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 02:53 PM

mmmmm

I used to love going to the magic pan on sundays for crepes.

Prin April 27th, 2005 03:00 PM

My mom got me an 18" flat, non stick pan for Christmas last year. I ONLY use it for crepes. :) I'd like to see someone TRY to use it for something else.

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 03:38 PM

lol

I know what you mean, my husband occasionally stirs with a silver utensil and I have heart failure. He says "what, it never touched the pan" then wonders a week later when the omelet I was preparing is torn to ribbons.

Prin April 27th, 2005 03:42 PM

I have been there!!! "It didn't touch the pan"-- I have heard that soooo many times. I actually have a Lagostina pan that you CAN use metal in (the non'stick has all fallen off) so I make him use that one. :)

twinmommy April 27th, 2005 04:43 PM

mmmm spinach and swisse cheese crepes!!!!

Just a word of caution, once non-stick starts peeling or wearing, you are supposed to throw them out right away!! They claim it is very unhealthy to ingest these teflon particals

Prin April 27th, 2005 05:28 PM

It's not peeling anymore, it's all peeled away.

BMDLuver April 27th, 2005 07:58 PM

lmao
It's not peeling anymore, it's all peeled away.
Prin's significant other has ingested all of it so she's safe!

:sorry: Couldn't resist.

Prin April 27th, 2005 09:36 PM

LOL (don't tell him that.. :) )
