Making cat shelters

So we have some spayed/neutered ferals in our backyard now....

Does anyone have the skinny on making good cat shelters?
I know many people use styrofoam.....
Our winters are COLD with average temps of about -10 (14 F) to minus -15 (5 F)for a few months. Occasionally it can get to -20 or -25 C (-13 F).

I did a search on this site and to buy something great like https://www.thekittytube.com/brands/The-Kitty-Tube.html gets expensive with 4+ferals

has anyone done this before on the cheaper side....got tips? Thx!

Marko I cant recall for sure but thought that 14+ Kitties may have started a thread on it before. I seem to recall them using rubbermade containers and styroform or hay...:thumbs up

Heres a video I just found...

I remembered that thread, too, Winston:

Doesn't look too hard to make and fairly inexpensive :thumbs up

I'm remembering the rubbermaid ones, too, Winston--but couldn't get a fast enough connection to do any more searching

Awesome thx everyone! carmy made one yesterday as a test out of a rubbermaid storage container and a kid's rubbery play-mat as a floor.

Today I'm gonna buy the styrofoam walls...and i think I'll spoil em and get the kind with foil on the inside...I think this can only help radiate body heat. But if anyone sees a downside, please let me know. Thx!

It should be easy enough to monitor any damage done to the foil layer, shouldn't it? My concern would be that they'd rip the foil off and accidentally ingest it. They really wouldn't have any reason to, but that doesn't mean they might not do it. (Certainly, our dogs would, but setters are more known for their beauty than their brains, much as it pains me to admit it!)
