We have had our ups and downs this first 10 days of being a 3 dog family. Everyone is quite happy and adjusted to living together in their new home. However the new arrivals are not totally housebroken. I knew when I took them on they would get into anything not locked down or chained up!! After a couple of whizs one in the bedroom the first night ( chalked it up to stress and another new home) another in the living room on my new area rug the next night (not impressed), and lastly one in my spare room( A protest whiz perhaps for being left alone for an hour and a half when I took chum with me to run some errands). On night number 4 I said ok you guys spend the night in the kitchen. I blocked the door way (or thought I had!). When I got up in the morning we had gotten into the dogfood cupboard and eaten an entire 1 pound bag of Zukes treats. Then jumped over the baracade and proceeded to hoark up 7 piles of undigested treats all over ... you guessed it the new area rug! Night 5 blockaded in the kitchen again, this time I wheeled the portable dishwasher into the doorway to blocki it, no getting around or jumping over it! when I got up the next morning....holy crap...literally... 5 piles of crap in the kitchen...the bed full of puke...whizzed on 2 of my kitchen rugs....3 pukes on the back landing....a whiz, a crap and 2 more pukes at the bottom of the stairs. Fun start to the day at 5 am. On the bright side they did use the pee pad I had put down as well! Oh well at least they had purged all the treats they had eaten.
So....the dogfood cupboard now has a toddler lock on it...I tie my folding door to landing shut at night. We get blockaded in the kitchen at night, with a pee pad ... just in case...even though before I go to bed everyone goes out for a whiz. We have now gone 5 nights in the kitchen at night and no whiz or crap, so far so good ...if we make it to 2 weeks and no further occurences , we will be allowed to have free access again to the house at night.

I live in a small town far from from veterinary clinic options. I am questioning the medications that have been prescribed to my youngest cat, CC(CeeCee). She is 2 years and 8 months old, fixed, and weighs 8 lbs. On May 10 she decided to pee in my sink (for some odd reason), and she was peeing orange. Upon bringing her to the vet they performed urinalysis and radiology ... told us it was a urinary tract infection and gave her a Convenia injection and Metacam injection. I also began putting a capfull of pure cranberry in her water dish each day as I here it is beneficial.
Again on May 23 she urinated in the sink. This time a darker red. The vet then prescribed oral Metacam (single dose), Noroclav 125mg twice daily x 3 weeks, and Baytril 25mg for 8 days.
I have done some research and am starting to come to the conclusion that the medications and dosages may be a bit off. I would appreciate some feedback so that I can be sure my cat is getting the right treatment. I am already a bit angry about the Metacam and am wondering why she needs it. She is not experiencing pain that I have noticed, and as far as I have been reading it seems dangerous for cats.
She seems quite content and happy, other than the bloody urine.

Thanks,

Properly executed, it seems like a good idea in principle to take advantage of unused vertical space: more areas for cats to play, leaving precious floor space free for humans to use :)

One concern I have is if I ever decide to move and sell my home, will potential buyers think it's weird, possibly driving down the value of my house.

I remembered that my cat's nails were once cut too short at the shelter to a point where blood came out before I adopt her. I brought her home a month after that incident and that was 3 years ago. I notice some black debris in the inner rim of the claws, but I thought it's dirt. I always brush her nails during her monthly bath, but the debris never go away. I found that those are not only debris from the litter box, but also brown-dry-blood like build ups. Those buildups pushed the quick back to half of the width of the nail and the quick is a little red. It's on all of her front and back claws. Some of the nails are widely split because of this. Not until recently I realized this may be a problem after I saw a video of healthy cat nails. (Pictures of my cat's claw is attached)

She is a total in door cat. 3 years old. Takes shots from vet every year. Overall healthy. I feed her high quality cat food and home made meet. Trim her nails carefully every week. Never wound her. The nails are like that for 3 years and it doesn't seem bordering her except that she licks and pulls her claws occasionally. She uses her claws to play and jump without a problem.

I put All-Purpose Veterinary soothing Ointment(0.3% Hydroxyquinoline, Sulfate containing petrolatum, lanolin, cetyl alcohol) on her nails, but she licked it immediately. I don't know if it is safe.
I'll take her to vet for sure if necessary. But she's alway affect greatly from vet visit, so firstly I'm trying to find out how serious this is if it is a problem, and see if I can cure it at home. I searched everywhere but found very little information. Some articles suggested condition like this may be bacteria or fungus/yeast infection, but no one shows what it really look like. If anyone have seen similar conditions or knowledgeable about this matter please help. Thanks! :cat::cat::fingerscr

My fiancé and I are toying with the idea of getting a second puppy. A relative of a coworker is looking to rehome their 5 month old male Chihuahua and we are considering taking him in.

We currently have a 4 year old, female Chihuahua and two adult cats. The current dynamic among them all is wonderful. They all get along and often sleep and play together.

Financially, we are prepared to vet and care for an additional furry creature and I am also prepared for the time/responsibility that goes along with a new puppy (although, our first pup was such a breeze I am trying to prepare myself for the fact that it doesn’t always go as smoothly with most puppies).

However, I have some reservations about upsetting the balance in our household. We are blessed with three pretty low maintenance, social, happy and healthy animals and I don’t want to jeopardize that. I’m also aware that another dog can add more restrictions in terms of travel and leisure time. We don’t travel often but I am just trying to consider as many options/scenarios as possible before we make the final decision.

I suppose my question is: How did you decide to go from one dog to two? How do you feel about the decision now?

Hi, everybody, it is with joy and sadness I post this today. I am still in disbelief. I had to do what is most important for Moses. This is me now .
I could not offer him what he desired a job. Yesterday Moses and I went for a drive, met a woman, and chit chatted. Now My little Treasure:(: is in a new home and doing great, he more likely is not going to remain in my Province. Moses is going to do, what he had been born to do. Moses is moving to Vancouver where he is going to join the Search and Rescue Team.
I had not been capable of offering him anything except my love, heart and anything else that we all do with our furry children. He is better in his new home than with me. They are going to work with him, when he is ready away he goes. Now I am going to have to watch the news, he may be on it. I am going to request for information about him on his new journey of life. I am extremely empty at this moment, but in my heart of hearts, I did the correct thing for my little boy. My Belgian Malinois is going off to sail in the Sunset.
:ca:. It is extremely quiet in my home now, I still have my other dog, but Moses, he would be yankering to play. He slept with me on my bed, he laid by my side on the couch with me. I want to thank everybody who supported Moses and I during our tuff times.:grouphug: I am crying again, I did the correct thing for him, my heart and brain are not in sync yet. Its going to take time

Hi,

The question is below.
Here's a little context.....

I need to try and put weight on my dog fast.
Long story, she's skinny and losing weight slowly and vet can't figure out what's going on after several tests (next stop internal specialist)
Vet says at this point it falls under the rare category.
She also has Megaesophagus. (vet does not think it's related to the skinny and weight loss)
Anyway, not looking for guesses on what's wrong with her.
I'm in good hands in that department.
Not so much in the diet department.

The vet has her on Medi Cal Gastro High Energy wet canned food (3 cans a day)
And in between the 3 meals, I also give her Trippet canned food.
She also gets treats, and eats crap off the ground outdoors (when I'm not able to stop it of course
But she's getting harder stool and constipation.
And still lost a little weight! (I know, not normal - but for now I have to keep trying things)
I know the Medi Cal is garbage, even if it is "balanced" food.
So this week I'm telling him I'm changing the diet gameplan.

Question:
Any suggestions for fast weight gain with quality, balanced, food that can hopefully steer clear of constipation and loose stool?
Thanks
